Do the math first!

Before you get a second job or work overtime, crunch the numbers to see what you’ll really be getting in your hand each week:

Work out how much more income you’ll be getting before tax (gross income).
Look at how this extra money will affect your other income. If you get money from Working for Families or a housing allowance, earning more income may affect this. Talk to WINZ to find out.
Look at how much tax you’ll be paying. If your total gross income (your current income plus the extra income) will be more than $48,000, part of your income will be taxed at a higher rate. Find out more on What's Tax?
Am I better off? Compare how much more you will actually get (your net income) for the change of job or the extra hours you will need to work. Is it worth the change?
